When it comes to buying or selling a property, working with a local estate agent who really knows the area and the market can make all the difference.
This month Conveyancing Partner Bobby Fife gives his take on what it is like to live in Greenbank, a popular residential district in the south of Edinburgh, situated next to Morningside.
“Having lived in the area for nearly 18 years and having brought up a family here, I definitely see the attraction of the leafy suburb. The uninterrupted views of the Pentland Hills from my window and the numerous green spaces nearby are hugely appealing, and were especially appreciated during lockdown. Greenbank is a very sought-after area, known for its beautiful parks and gardens as well as its proximity to Blackford Hill and the Braid Hills. The opportunities for enjoying walks and the Scottish outdoors are endless – there is a hidden gem of a woodland walk behind Greenbank Village which opens up into a field with fantastic views of the Pentlands; within a short 15 minute walk through some woodland you can be at the top of either East or West Craiglockhart Hill where, with a small amount of effort, you can get magnificent views over the city and beyond; a 15 minute walk away takes you to the Hermitage of Braid (at the start of that is the Lodge Coffee House where you can enjoy a delicious crepe or hot chocolate); or if you fancy a river walk you can be in the Braidburn Valley in less than a 10 minute walk. Alternatively a 10 minute cycle will take you to the Union Canal.
Greenbank is home to some of the best schools in Edinburgh. It also has an abundance of clubs for children and is known for its strong sense of community, with many local events and activities throughout the year. There are thriving Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Brownies and Guides packs at the nearby Church, astro pitches at Firhill High School which are left open and enjoyed by many teenagers, Craiglockhart Leisure Centre and also Mortonhall Tennis club which is popular.
There is easy access to the city centre and the hustle and bustle of Morningside is only a 15 minute walk away where you can find the unique Dominion Cinema as well as a host of good restaurants, bars and shops. The best chippy on the south side – the Chip Inn – is also nearby!”
