Dalkeith, a town in Midlothian, lies approximately 7 miles south-west of Edinburgh, and with it’s excellent transport links to the city and wide range of amenities in the town itself, it is a popular choice with many first-time buyers, families, couples and young professionals alike.
With offices around Edinburgh and the Lothians, our team all live and work in the area so know first hand what an area has to offer. So, what is it like to live in Dalkeith? Our Head of Estate Agency, Lisa Connolly, who has lived in Midlothian her whole life, tells us.
“Dalkeith has a wealth of amenities and shops with both independent retailers and also larger chains of supermarkets as well as a 24-hour Tesco. Eateries are plentiful and people travel far and wide to sample the delights of our local restaurants such as the authentic Bombay Lounge and The Sun Inn.
Having lived in Midlothian my whole life, I love that there is a great sense of community here in Dalkeith, with volunteer groups like the Guerrilla Gardeners always working hard to make improvements, Dalkeith One providing a community hub and many more local heroes that dedicate a lot of time and energy to making our environment as good as it can be. We’re spoiled for choice with green space with Newbattle Abbey and Dalkeith Country Park. Newbattle Golf club and lots of other leisure activities are available. Schooling is well regarded from nursery to secondary level and Kings Park Primary School is always in high demand.
Dalkeith is steeped in history and things to do. It feels like you are away from the hustle and bustle of the city, yet close enough too if you need. Transport links to the city and surrounding areas are brilliant, we have the Tweedbank rail line connecting the border towns and the city centre in 20 minutes from the nearby Eskbank railway station.”
