As the hours of daylight start to get longer, now is the time to make sure property is looking it’s best. Kerb appeal plays a hugely important role when it comes to selling. The appearance of the front of your house sets the tone for everything that lies behind it, and enhancing your property’s kerb appeal can not only increase the amount of interest your property receives when it hits the market, but can also result in a better sale price.

There are lots of ways to improve your property’s kerb appeal, such as:

  • Paint the front door – deep reds and navy are classic colours for the front door, however pastels and bright colours are becoming increasingly popular and can set your house apart from the rest on the street as well as create a welcoming and positive entrance.
  • Tidy up the lawn – remove leaves, weeds and other winter rubbish that may be lying on the lawn, and if you can, cut the grass to try and make it as neat as possible.
  • Clean the path and driveway – cut back any shrubs, pressure wash the driveway or stones, and remove any rubbish so that there is a clear and clean entrance to your home. Adding some brightly coloured pot plants at your front door can also be attractive.
  • Create feature lighting – especially if you have viewers coming to your home in the evenings, make sure your house is bright and welcoming.
  • Keep the windows clean – a good way to ensure wooden window frames don’t rot and also helps ensure the house is as bright as possible.
  • Fix any fences and grab a paintbrush – painting the exterior of the house and fences will brighten it immediately.
  • Fix cracked pipes and drains – not only do these look unsightly, they can cause damp problems.
  • Check your roof and gutters – get up on a ladder and remove any excess moss from the roof, check that leaves are not blocking your gutters and ensure that any tiles have not slipped following bad weather.

We are all guilty of putting off the many DIY projects and ignoring the to-do list. But whether it is online viewers, people walking past your property, or active buyers visiting your home, first impressions count, so it pays to keep on top of property repairs and spruce up your home for instant kerb appeal.
